Details of Design - Cabinet Hardware
Your first big decision is whether to use all knobs, all pulls, or a combination. It’s generally easier to open a cabinet with a knob and a drawer with a pull. When thinking about hardware types, think about what’s most functional for your lifestyle and practical for your physical abilities.
Knobs ($):
Smaller profiles than handles
Used for both drawers and cabinets
Pulls ($$):
Larger than knobs
Easier to grip
Their shape tends to complement drawers or larger cabinets
Once you’ve decided on hardware type, the next questions is what style suits your space.
Traditional hardware has ridges, curved silhouettes, and textured detailing.
Modern hardware has clean lines and edges with a minimal profile that is smooth to the touch.
Generally, warmer toned spaces with brass hardware have a vintage, while cooler tones with darker hardware are more contemporary.
While drawers and cabinets can range in size, we generally recommend that the pull length is approximately 1/3 of the cabinet or drawer width.
